The trade itself wasn’t too much of a surprise, considering that Nance has been mentioned in trade talks during the past year. While much of his time with the Cavs had been under the team’s rebuilding philosophy, his continually positive approach endeared him to the community. Nance, who grew up in Northeast Ohio, was acquired by the Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2018. While playing here I’ve tried to facilitate exactly that, and just because I’m moving on to a new team doesn’t mean that will stop, this will always be home for me.”

More love, more acknowledgement, more appreciation. “Being born and raised here, I’ve always felt that Cleveland - and the people who live here - are so deserving of more. I got to play with another pretty decent player from Akron, Ohio and be part of a team that went to the Finals, was fortunate enough to buy a house less than 10 minutes from where I grew up, and the greatest gift of all, my wife and I welcomed our new baby girl into our lives. “When I got traded here it was the best thing that could’ve happened to both me, and my entire family. “From being in my Dad’s arms as a 2 year old as I watched his jersey get retired at Gund Arena, to TeePeeing Shaq’s house with my family to ‘Welcome him to the neighborhood’ when he came to the Cavs in 2009, and even playing 1-on-1 games with current Cavs GM and friend Koby Altman to get in shape for my high school basketball season, this organization has been a part of every stage of my life. “The Cleveland Cavaliers - an organization that while I’ve only played for 3½ years, I’ve been a part of for each and every one of my 28,” Nance wrote. Nance composed an open letter to ’s Chris Fedor that allowed the former Cavs star to adequately offer thanks while noting that he’ll continue to be supportive of the community. to the Portland Trail Blazers, the veteran poured his heart out in expressing thanks to Cleveland Cavaliers fans. McQueen might not be held up as such a cool guy if he'd run someone over in his drunken state on that day in 1972.After Friday’s trade of Larry Nance Jr. Fifty years ago, many offenders laughed it off. These days, we consider drunk driving a serious issue, and with good reason. While McQueen has often been held up as one of the all-time coolest cats in Hollywood, his antics and mischievous grin in the mugshot aren't cool. Once they got him arrested it was a pretty good time - sort of an autograph party in handcuffs. When they did finally get him stopped they administered a field sobriety test, and he somersaulted down the white line. It was not just a time or two - he really raised hell for quite a while. The witness said: My recollection is that McQueen was roaring up and down 4th Avenue at very high speed and turning brodies - drunker than hell. We don't know why McQueen was in Alaska at the time, but an eyewitness account has surfaced on the internet that explains the actor was busted doing doughnuts (or "turning brodies") in an Oldsmobile Toronado.

Though the recognition and fame was undoubtedly much appreciated by Candy, it looks like he was pretty happy back in '83 - when audiences recognized him as "that guy" from a film and his neighbors knew him as "that guy" who's not afraid to wear two violently clashing plaids. Starring or co-starring roles followed in such films as Summer Rental (1985), Volunteers (1985), Armed & Dangerous (1986), Spaceballs (1987), and perhaps his greatest film, Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987).

The film was a huge hit, and Candy became more than a familiar face - he was clearly a star.

The following year, Candy played a scene-stealing supporting role as Tom Hanks' deviant brother in Splash. He'd also done a couple of seasons on SCTV. He was a character actor in the "that guy" phase - he was that guy in Stripes (Dewey Oxburger) and Vacation (security guard Russ Lasky). When this photo of John Candy and his daughter Jennifer Anne was taken, in 1983, Candy was in his early 30s and his career had turned a corner. Does this large man, wearing curlers in his hair and some interesting clothing, look like a world-famous comedian? Well, he wasn't - not yet.
